Scottish Modern Apprenticeships and Vocational Qualifications are work based Training Programmes, which enable individuals to combine employment and training. Modern Apprenticeships are undertaken while you are in employment (so you “earn while you learn”). YouTrain offers apprenticeships in several occupational areas.
Modern Apprenticeships can be taken by people of any age, not just young people.Secondly, they are not only for the “traditional” areas of trades and crafts. Modern Apprenticeships are available for almost all occupations.
To get funding to do an Apprenticeship (or even to be able to do one without funding) you must be employed (in a full time or part time job). This is because Modern Apprenticeships are about showing you are competent to do a particular type of job.
Funding for Modern Apprenticeships from Skills Development Scotland is only intended to cover part of the cost of an apprenticeship programme. Other costs are usually paid by your employer. They vary depending on the type of apprenticeship being undertaken.
